 Monday 22nd February 2021 - Welcome Back!

Good morning everyone. I hope you have all had a restful half term break. Not too relaxing though, I hope you have managed to get out for a little exercise, whether it has been for a walk, a walk with the dog or something a little more energetic like a bike ride or run.
This term will be just like last term, 2 PE lessons a week, session 1 and session 2. Session 1 will be Indoor Athletics and session 2 will be something new! You are going to have a go at a Martial art - MINI MUAY THAI with Kelly Haynes who is a British Champion of Muay Thai boxing. I will either set a warm up game or some stretching exercises, then to follow , you will click on a link that I have put on the plans, this will take you to a small video to join in with the mini Muay thai, this will last for about 25 minutes. I have tried them, they are great! Please follow the correct activities for your class year, either the Early years, years 1 and 2 activities, or the Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 activities. I would, as always, love to put any photos on this page of you joining in with any of the PE sessions. Let's do this and have some fun whilst staying healthy and active..

**Remember - those that have been participating in the South Derbyshire to Tokyo challenge, or those that would like to join in, the challenge starts back today - Monday 22nd February. Lets see if we can beat our best week of 520.95kms. Good luck!

Any queries or photos, remember to email me at: nshenton@heathfields.derbyshire.sch.uk

See you soon. Take care, stay safe, stay active. Mrs Shenton

Monday 11th January 2021 - Hi everyone!

This term in PE in school we would have been doing Badminton and Indoor athletics. This is going to be a little tricky now that school's are closed. I will still be setting PE lessons to keep you as active as possible. Session 2 will be the same each week as it is Circuit training, can you improve your strength and stamina weekly? Please see below each week for your class sessions

.

Last term we did the 560 programme and looked at Healthy eating with the Eat well plate and discussed a Healthy balanced diet. It's really important especially at the moment to try and remember all of these things that we discussed that help towards a healthy lifestyle - A healthy balanced diet (including 5-7 pieces of fruit and vegetables a day), 60 minutes of exercise a day and plenty of sleep. Remember we discussed that the most important meal of the day is a healthy breakfast and the healthiest drink is water - a minimum of 6-8 glasses a day.

I  would love to see any photos of you taking part in the PE lessons or any other physical activities that you do at home. Enjoy, have fun, stay active, healthy and most importantly safe. See you soon.

Please email if you have any problems or photos to send to me: nshenton@heathfields.derbyshire.sch.uk

**February 1st to February 7th is 'CHILDREN'S MENTAL HEALTH WEEK' - remember that physical activity keeps the body strong and healthy and can improve mental health by decreasing symptoms of anxiety and depression. Physical activity can improve focus, school performance, sleep and energy levels. Not only does being physically active help with your physical health it helps improve your brain function and emotional wellbeing. Aerobic exercises, like, walking, jogging, biking, gardening and dancing are great ways to stay healthy and they do wonders for your mood. After doing exercise you will feel great, this is because of tiny neurochemicals released by your body, these are called endorphins.

STAY ACTIVE!

February Half term

I have really missed our PE lessons together this term. I hope it won’t be much longer before we can all be back together again, racing, competing, showing off our fantastic skills and brilliant teamwork. Thank you so much to those of you that have participated in your weekly class PE sessions, I feel very proud knowing that you have tried to continue with PE and keep physically active, especially at home where you might not have much space or any equipment.  We reminded ourselves before Christmas about the positive impact physical activity has on the body and mind, especially during the current situation, I’m glad you remembered. Finally, and most importantly, I hope that you have had lots of fun doing the activities whilst challenging yourself at the same time....You could always repeat some of the PE lessons over half term or try some of the other year group lessons. There are many resources on the internet to keep you active, i.e. yoga, Joe Wicks, Super movers. Going for a walk, bike ride, scootering, dancing in the kitchen, playing in the garden, they will boost your energy levels and you will feel great!

Have a super half term, I think we all deserve a well earned rest. Take care and stay safe. See you soon.
